Tuimala is a laboratory scientist from Tonga who is passionate about advancing healthcare and community wellbeing through research and innovation. She has experience working in a clinical laboratory environment and was the Head of the Haematology Department of Vaiola Laboratory. To prevent non-communicable disease and obesity in Tonga, Tuimala collaborated with her high-school alumni community to establish an organisation promoting healthy lifestyles and regular movement, including through the provision of exercise classes for students. Well-versed in empowering individuals with disability, Tuimala presently provides emotional and physical support to people with diverse needs as a Disability Support Worker for We2Care in Townsville.

Through her academic pursuits and professional experiences, Tuimala is determined to break barriers and inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in science. She was awarded Dux of her graduating high-school class and holds a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science from Fiji National University and a Diploma in Medical Microbiology from the Pacific Regional Infectious Disease Association.
