Master of Public Health

James Cook University

Susan is a public health nurse with 10 years of nursing supervisory experience and strong knowledge of national and local health guidelines. Prior to taking up her Australia Award, she worked as the Infection Control Coordinator of Madang Provincial Health Authority, where she developed educational programs for hospitals and strategies to record and control infectious cases.

During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Papua New Guinea (PNG), she was Team Leader for Infection Prevention and Control, liaising with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and partners to mitigate risks of virus transmission.

On her return to PNG, Susan hopes to conduct further research on and emphasise the links between climate change and the health of young people to inform public health policy. The recipient of a conference scholarship from the Australasia College of Infection Prevention and Control, Susan has also worked in clinical research and managed HIV testing programs in PNG.
