Mefilina is an economist and award-winning Chief Manager of the Tongan Central Bank’s Economic Department. Since 2019, she has led her team to provide economic analysis and guidance to key decision-makers, facilitate markets, and represent the Bank. A former Statistician, Financial Analyst and Manager of Financial Markets, Mefilina has steered teams through challenging times including the COVID-19 pandemic and Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcanic eruption.
To support Tonga’s economic prosperity and resilience, Mefilina aspires to provide high-quality research, good practice, and development through her work. She is passionate about promoting women’s financial independence in the home and workplace to reduce financial abuse risks and contribute to Tonga’s economy. Mefilina holds a Bachelor of Economics from The University of the South Pacific.
