Kurande Kupeng
Papua New Guinea

Master of Public Health; Master of Business Administration

James Cook University

Kurande is an experienced pharmacist and pharmacy manager who became the first woman in her village in Morobe Province to attain a university degree (Bachelor of Pharmacy). In her capacity as Pharmacy Manager of Sandaun Provincial Hospital for the West Sepik Provincial Health Authority, Kurande trained and introduced the first cohort of pharmacy assistants to the workforce in Sandaun Province.

Operating in a male-dominated environment and culture inspires Kurande to refine her leadership skills and work alongside men to address development issues in her province. Kurande hopes her participation in WLI will help her build the skills and networks needed to increase pharmaceutical access by addressing contributing management and supply chain issues, including the lack of medical supplies available to people in rural and remote communities.
