Frances is a senior official in Solomon Islands’ Ministry of Education and Human Resources and a high schoolteacher. In her work, Frances has been actively developing the Solomon Island’s Education in Emergencies (EiE) policy and serving as the national EiE focal point.
Frances is concerned that girls from rural Solomon Islands areas drop out of school early, with few career prospects and a future of dependency ahead of them. She is keen to break the dependency cycle so that young women do not repeat it with their daughters. On returning to Solomon Islands, Frances will implement interventions that support these girls with information so they can make informed life choices, and show them that they can improve their capacity and become future leaders.
