Elsie has held various roles in Nauru’s Ministry of Climate Change in which she has been responsible for implementing the National Energy Roadmap and engaging schools and communities to promote energy efficiency and sustainability. As a Renewable Energy Officer at the Nauru Utilities Corporation, she challenged gender stereotypes as the only female working on-site at the time. She also has experience working in private sector finance, administration, and monitoring and evaluation.
With skills and networks formed through the Women’s Developmental Leadership Program, Elsie intends to generate a platform for building effective communication and accountability in Nauru. She also hopes to create a safe mentoring space to develop pathways for young Nauruan mothers like herself and is determined to see them challenge cultural stereotypes through education and career advancement. Elsie is currently undertaking her Bachelor of Engineering, specialising in Renewable and Electrical Engineering at Queensland University of Technology.
