WLI has appointed a new group of WLI Alumni Representatives in the Pacific and expanded their reach to Tonga and Vanuatu to support more alumni returning home after completing their Australia Awards studies.
In 2024-2025, 15 WLI Alumni Representatives from Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and now Tonga and Vanuatu, will work together to advocate for the needs of alumni returning home, coordinate events and inform WLI activities happening in their countries, and connect WLI alumni with development and networking opportunities.
These opportunities will include (but are not limited to) access to ongoing training, coaching, mentoring and counselling support, in-person and online leadership learning and networking, Pacific-based workplace internships and professional development, and access to funding for leadership action.
The appointments respond to the overwhelming body of research that highlights the additional barriers faced by women alumni, compared with men, when returning home and attempting to move into and exercise leadership in professional and other domains.
